submissions: mental health zine

A friendly reminder to you writers, artists, activists, and generally awesome folks that the mental health zine submission deadline is just over a week away! November 15th is the (somewhat flexible) deadline. We would still love for more submissions! So get workin’ on it and/or encourage any of your friends who may be interested.

As a reminder this is what the zine’s about:

The mental health zine is a compliation on experiences of resisting the stigma of mental health/illness. This includes any aspect relating to mental health, including experiences with illness, coping, psychology/psychiatry, mental health institutions, as well as everyday life. We’re especially interested in work that explores topics of politics, identity, speaking out, supporting people, intersections with other oppressions, as well as general areas of agency, power and resistance. Submissions can be in the form of personal stories, essays, poetry, art, photography, or whatever else you fancy.

All submissions will be kept confidential unless you specify a desire to have your name included. We will thoroughly consider everything submitted and we will respond to all of you. However, the zine strives to be as anti-oppressive as possible, so submissions with racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, xenophobic or classist content will not be printed.

If you would like to like submit a piece or want to find out more about what we’re doing, feel free to send us an e-mail at mentalhealthzine@gmail.com If you can’t e-mail your submission to us, let us know and we will sort out other arrangements.

Also, some additional information. The zine format is going to be half of a standard size of paper (8.5″ X 11″) folded in half lengthwise. So about half of a standard size page. This is what most zines hanging around look like these days. It will also be in black and white due to printing costs.

Anyway we look forward to seeing all of your work! Thanks again!

Pinhole photography

open studio!workshop: pinhole camera photography with Claudia and Tanha! ((bilingue)) (5$)
A dynamic workshop in which people have the chance to experience
photography as a whole, from the making of the camera to the
development of the picture. The workshop consists in building a camera
obscura made out of recyclable material, encouraging the attendees to
recycle and get crafty and creative.
MATERIALS NEEDED: people should bring any kind of container that can
be completely sealed and easy to open, it should be absolutely dark on
the inside, dry, any size and different shapes could be interesting,
it would be better if they brought around 5 containers (as every
container exposes only one picture), and one of the walls of the
container must be thin enough to be perforated. A perfect example of a
good container is the one coffee comes in, the round metal ones that
have a lid. Cans, and sealed boxes as well, only remember they have to
be opened and closed several times.
