were back and we’ve busted out a new and special workshop series for you this fall
so break out yer scarves and come on over!
Who we are:
The Ste. Emilie SkillShare is a group of artists and activists,
primarily people of colour and queer people, committed to promoting
artistic expression and self-representation in our communities. We are
building and running an art studio for people to learn new skills,
share their skills, and create art in the spirit of revolution and
anti-oppression (anti-racism /sexism /classism/ homophobia/
transphobia /ableism /sizeism/etc). Long live skill-sharing!

principalement des personnes de couleur et des personnes queers,
engagées à promouvoir l’expression artistique et l’autoreprésentation
dans nos communautés. Nous montons et gérons un studio d’art
permettant aux gens d’apprendre de nouvelles habiletés, et créer de
l’art dans l’esprit de la révolution et de l’anti-oppression
(anti-racisme/sexisme/classisme/homophobie/transphobie, discrimination
basée sur le handicap ou la taille, etc.).
WORKSHOP LOWDOWN:
-> Our core workshops (silkscreen, photo and sewing) will run on sundays,
all other workshops will take place during regular open studios on saturdays.
-> Each workshop listed has a suggested donation amount. We love
donations! And really need them to keep emilie running. We have a pay
what you can system and no one will be turned away.
-> Some workshops have a maximum # of participants, please try to RSVP!
-> All workshops will begin at 2pm (unless otherwise noted).
-> All workshops are given in english unless stated otherwise.
Workshops and Programming for October & November:
OCTOBER 11th: OPENING DAY of the fall workshop series!

On this, the two-hundred year anniversary of the discovery of the sequin,
the Ste-Emilie Skillshare proudly launches the latest installment of Bust
Out Yer Skillz. There will be a workshop on how to edit sound on your
computer, guided tours for newbies, open use of the studio, as well as
fresh roasted corn and hot apple cider.
workshop! 2-5pm: manipulating waves at home
Come learn how to use your computer to edit sound using Audacity, a free
and open-source application. Use a pair of headphones to record yourself,
rip samples from movies, diy karaoke, and more!
OCTOBER 12th:workshop: SILKSCREENING 101: (10-20$)
Learn all of the steps of a photo emulsion screen printing project in a
fun environment; coating the screen, image preparation tips, burning
the screen, printing, and cleaning up. Pick up insider tips & tricks
and walk out with a masterpiece!

OCTOBER 18th: open studio and button making!
come to ste em during this open studio and learn how to use our super
fabulous super popular button maker.
OCTOBER 19th:workshop: basic black & white photo development (in the darkroom)! (10$)
Bring black and white (or colour if you must) negatives to learn basic
B&W darkroom techniques

OCTOBER 25th: open studio!and workshop: felting (5$)
Felt is a non-woven cloth that is produced by matting, condensing and
pressing fibers. While some types of felt are very soft, some are
tough enough to form construction materials. Felt is the oldest form
of fabric known to humankind. This workshop will cover both wet and
needle-felting techniques.
OCTOBER 26th: workshop: basic sewing machine skillz!
master yr fear of the sewing machine. learn super basic stitches,
how to cut patterns & work the serger.
no skills required.

NOVEMBER 1st: open studio!workshop: pinhole camera photography with Claudia and Tanha! ((bilingue)) (5$)
A dynamic workshop in which people have the chance to experience
photography as a whole, from the making of the camera to the
development of the picture.The workshop consists in building a camera
obscura made out of recyclable material, encouraging the attendees to
recycle and get crafty and creative.
MATERIALS NEEDED: people should bring any kind of container that can
be completely sealed and easy to open, it should be absolutely dark on
the inside, dry, any size and different shapes could be interesting,
it would be better if they brought around 5 containers (as every
container exposes only one picture), and one of the walls of the
container must be thin enough to be perforated. A perfect example of a
good container is the one coffee comes in, the round metal ones that
have a lid. Cans, and sealed boxes as well, only remember they have to
be opened and closed several times.

NOVEMBER 7th: art auction for tyendinaga
This is a day to raise awareness of and funds for the reclamation of
the Culbertson Tract by the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Workshops
during the day, followed later on by a silent art auction, live music,
hair styling, a clothing swap and more.
NOVEMBER 8th: open studio! and workshop: super 8 film-making PART ONE (10$)
Super 8 film is super! as in, super easy!
NOVEMBER 9th:workshop: SILKSCREENING 101: (10-20$)
